Therapy 32 times more cost effective at increasing happiness than money

It sounds like a cliché to say that money doesn’t make you happy but researchers at University of Warwick and University of Manchester have found that psychological therapy can be more cost effective in making you happy than acquiring more money.

The researchers compared large data sets where thousands of people reported on their well-being. They looked at how well-being changed due to therapy compared to how well-being was affected by sudden increases in wealth e.g. pay rises or lottery wins etc. According to their research, the increase in well-being from a 4 month course of therapy was so large that it would require a pay increase of £25,000 (NZ$54,300.00) to achieve an equivalent increase in well-being.

This could suggest that, although money is a necessity in life, and, more money lets us buy more, ultimately, it is not the most important factor in our health, well-being and happiness. Over the past half century many countries have experienced rises in the standard of living, but throughout the world mental health issues appear to be on the increase. The rise in wealth does not, on its own, appear to improve health and happiness. To have ‘good mental health’ (to quote Frasier Crane), and good health in general, boosts our well-being more.

The last survey that the Kinesiology Federation in the UK did, looking at what issues bring clients to kinesiology, suggested that substantial numbers of people come to kinesiologists looking for help with psychological issues. Psychological issues are dealt with simply and effectively with Health Kinesiology.  Health Kinesiology looks at your life issues and helps you make positive changes in all areas of your life to enable you to move forward with confidence and at peace with yourself.
